Core equips the 2027 Volvo XC90 with seven seats in three rows and the 247-horsepower B5 mild hybrid. It rolls on 20-inch 5-Multi Spoke Glossy Black Diamond Cut alloy wheels with all-season tires. Quilted Nordico seats come in Charcoal or Cardamom, and Volvo describes the textile as a blend of recycled materials with bio-attributed pine resin.

Standard equipment starts with a panoramic roof, Pilot Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control and BLIS. Heat reaches the steering wheel and both front and rear seats, and third-row air conditioning supplements the four-zone climate system. The 11.2-inch center display carries Google built-in, which now adds Google Gemini (Volvo notes availability may vary), and wireless phone charging is included.

Plus brings all three powertrains into play for the 2027 Volvo XC90: the B5, the B6 and the T8 plug-in hybrid. With the B5, Plus seats seven. Choose a B6 or T8 and six seats become an option, turning the second row into a pair of captain's chairs whose armrests carry built-in cupholders. Wheels grow to 21 inches.

For 2027, Plus carries Harman Kardon Premium Sound as standard, its bass handled by an air-ventilated subwoofer. A 360-degree camera joins Park Assist at the front, rear and sides, the door windows switch to laminated glass, and the rear doors get sun curtains. Volvo lists an integrated booster cushion as available on most seven-seat models. Quilted Nordico upholstery continues from Core.

Ultra tops the 2027 Volvo XC90 lineup, pairing with the B6 mild hybrid or the T8 plug-in hybrid in six- or seven-seat form. Upholstery steps up to Nappa leather, offered in Blond as well as Charcoal and Cardamom. The front seats gain ventilation, power four-way lumbar support and power side bolsters, while a head-up display and passenger seat memory round out the additions.

Harman Kardon stays standard, and Bowers & Wilkins Premium Sound can be added. Options also include Active air suspension and a Lounge package with front seat massage and a Nubuck headliner. Two themes set the exterior trim. Bright uses a chrome-framed grille with chrome inserts, and Dark switches to a high-gloss black grille frame with matte black inserts and black mirror caps. Either powertrain is rated for a 5,000-lb braked trailer when properly equipped.

Two of the 2027 Volvo XC90's three powertrains are mild hybrids. Volvo rates the B5 at 247 hp, and EPA estimates put it at 25 mpg combined, with 23 city and 29 highway. In the B6, a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is both turbocharged and supercharged produces 295 hp and 310 lb-ft. Whatever the trim or powertrain, an 8-speed Geartronic transmission and all-wheel drive are standard.

Output peaks in the T8 AWD Plug-in hybrid. Its rear-mounted electric motor and turbocharged four-cylinder together produce 401 hp, with torque totaling 494 lb-ft. Using EPA driving cycles, Volvo estimates the T8's electric range at up to 33 miles from its 18.8-kWh battery, and real-world results vary. The T8 needs 5.1 seconds to reach 60 mph by Volvo's figures, against 6.4 for the B6.
