2027 Volvo XC60 Fuel Economy

Both versions of the 2027 Volvo XC60 are electrified, which shapes what you spend at the pump. The B5 mild hybrid carries EPA estimates of 24 mpg city, 29 highway and 26 combined, while the T8 plug-in hybrid can cover the average Ocala errand run on battery power and save the gas engine for the highway.

Below, Jenkins Volvo Cars Ocala lays out the numbers for each powertrain, what the plug-in hybrid adds, and how charging fits into a normal week.

2027 Volvo XC60 B5 Mild Hybrid MPG
V

The EPA rates the 2027 XC60 B5 AWD at 24 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 26 mpg combined. Those are the figures EPA has published for the B5 AWD, the one XC60 powertrain with 2027 ratings posted so far.

The B5 uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter four backed by 48-volt mild hybrid assistance and stop-start, and Volvo asks for premium fuel. The mild hybrid works in the background, adding assist off the line and banking braking energy to trim consumption, and it keeps itself charged as you drive.

  • EPA-estimated 24 mpg city and 29 mpg highway
  • EPA-estimated 26 mpg combined
  • 2.0L turbocharged four with 48-volt mild hybrid
  • Stop-start technology standard
  • Premium fuel required
  • 18.8-gallon fuel tank

Volvo rates the T8 AWD at 401 horsepower for 2027, with an 18.8-kWh battery driving a rear-axle electric motor that works alongside the turbocharged four. The EPA has not posted 2027 ratings for this powertrain yet, so the most recent published figures come from the prior model year.

Those figures are 28 mpg combined on gasoline alone and 63 MPGe combined when you count the electricity, with 560 miles of total driving range from a full tank and a full charge. Volvo advertises up to 35 miles of electric range, enough that a trip across Ocala and back can happen without the engine starting.

  • 401 horsepower from the T8 plug-in hybrid
  • Up to 35 miles of electric range, per Volvo
  • 18.8-kWh battery
  • 28 mpg combined on gasoline, most recent published rating
  • 63 MPGe combined, most recent published rating
  • Up to 560 miles of total range, most recent published rating

2027 Volvo XC60 Charging & Running Costs

Volvo lists a full charge for the plug-in hybrid at five hours from empty on a home wallbox or a public AC charger, which fits neatly into an overnight at home. EPA's most recent published figure, from the prior model year, agrees at five hours on 240 volts, so a nightly plug-in keeps most of your local driving electric.

Volvo's own comparison says a driver moving from the gas XC60 to the plug-in hybrid uses up to 315 fewer gallons of fuel a year, a figure Volvo scopes to its MY26 T8 AWD versus MY26 B5 AWD comparison. Either way, both XC60s ask for premium fuel, and the mild hybrid skips the charging routine entirely.

  • Five hours for a full charge on AC
  • Charges from a home wallbox or public AC charger
  • Up to 315 fewer gallons a year versus the gas XC60, per Volvo
  • Premium fuel for both powertrains
  • No charging needed for the B5 mild hybrid
